Performance & Knowledge Evidence Performance Evidence To be assessed as competent, the learner must demonstrate the ability to complete tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, including: Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult manikin on the floor for an uninterrupted period of 2 minutes. Provide CPR on an infant manikin for 2 minutes. Demonstrate the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Manage an unconscious breathing casualty by placing them in the recovery position. Perform first aid procedures for: bleeding shock fractures burns seizures asthma anaphylaxis choking Follow established workplace or site procedures for first aid. Communicate details of the incident and the individual's condition to emergency services and workplace personnel. Knowledge Evidence The learner must demonstrate knowledge of: Guidelines and procedures for providing first aid as outlined by: Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) First aid codes of practice Legal, workplace, and community considerations, including: duty of care consent privacy and confidentiality Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander considerations own skills and limitations First aid principles: chain of survival basic physiology relevant to CPR signs, symptoms, and management of medical conditions Safe use and maintenance of first aid equipment, including AEDs. Techniques for: cardiopulmonary resuscitation managing shock bleeding control immobilisation handling casualties Documentation and incident reporting requirements.
